Tours and  Trails which criss-cross the county provide memorable days of discovery for drivers, walkers, cyclists and those enjoying the lakes & Inland waterways of Ireland. The Northern part of the county, bordering south county Leitrim and Cavan has a rugged landscape, dotted with a mass of lakes and hills. An abundance of lowlying countryside awaits the driver/walker/cyclist who wishes to explore and enjoy the heart of Ireland. Large stretches of bogland, distinct to the midlands, offers endless opportunities to those with a love of and interest in the fascinating biodiversity of these landscapes.

The scenery of Co Longford is so beautiful it is difficult to understand how this part of Ireland has remained a secret for so long. It is this rugged beauty coupled with authenticity of place and space which makes Co Longford stand out from the crowd. Travelling through south county Longford, most especially around the Shannon and Lough Ree area, offers wonderful views for the photographer. Colourful and lively villages extend their special brand of hospitality and warmth of welcome.  Barley Harbour and Elfeet Bay are wonderful spots to stop off, have a picnic and dip your toes in the waters of Lough Ree and a trip onto Saints Island is a must do on any itinerary.

Chatting with the locals, enjoying a pint of guinness or an Irish coffee, sampling some fine local food and taking in the wonderful Lakeland scenery and culture of this most midland of counties, allows the visitor a glimpse of the real Ireland that simply cannot be found elsewhere.
