Ardagh Heritage & Creativity Centre


Creative Ardagh is based in Ardagh Heritage and Creativity Centre in the picturesque village of Ardagh, Co. Longford. Located off the N4 from Edgeworthstown and  just 10 minutes away from the towns of Edgeworthstown, Ballymahon, and Longford as well as the historical Iron Age Corlea Trackway in Corlea, Kenagh. Operated by local women Ann Gerety Smyth and Annette Corkery , Creative Ardagh offer group sessions at great value for money rates, with sessions regularly based on the rich history and culture of the area. There is a particular emphasis on the enchanting legend of Midir and Étain as the centre is based at the foot of Brì Leith, the ancient home of the Fairy Prince Midir.

Group Sessions with Creative Ardagh offer a chance to pursue your own creative journey in a relaxed environment surrounded by local history and natural heritage. Providing inspiration and guidance, without prescriptive step-by-step instructions, the centre  offers courses in a range of arts and craft media from drawing, painting and printing, to weaving and embroidery and lots in between. Ann and Annette are available to cater for groups of all ages and are very flexible in terms of time. A soup and sandwiches  lunch or tea and scones can be provided  if booked in advance.

Groups per person: €5 per hour for groups less than 10 with a minimum of 4 per group. €4 per hour for groups over 10. Tuition, all materials and tea/coffee are provided.Visitors get to bring their own art creations home

New half day and full day workshops for groups:

Stop-motion animation: develop your own storyboards, create your sets and characters, shoot your frames and learn to edit and create your own animation. Half day €15 per person, full day €25 per person, minimum group of 4.

Wet felting: Create a picture with felting wool. Learn the process from planning your composition through to completed piece. Half day €15per person, full day €25 per person, minimum group of 4.

If there is a specific craft you are interested in learning or improving please email Ann and Annette to let them know and they will do their best to provide a course in the future subject to demand. Batik on the way.

Family Fun:  Creative Ardagh host a series of seasonal family events at Halloween,Christmas, Saint Patricks weekend, Easter and Lughnasa. Early booking is advised as the events fill up fast. (Extra morning sessions may be announced later subject to demand). Adults €5 (including tea/coffee), Children €8, Family of 4 €24 (2 adults and 2 children or 1 adult and 3 children).

Toddler Thursday: Every Thursday from 11am to 12pm. €5 per child. Free tea/coffee for the accompanying creative adult.

Elements of Art course: Creative Ardagh run this exciting art course on Thursdays in Ardagh Heritage and Creativity Centre, Ardagh, Co. Longford from 12.30 to 1.30pm. It is open to all ages from toddlers to adults. Each class costs €5 per person with occasional extra charges for materials which is normally advertised in advance. This course is also run on an outreach basis in venues around the county (€7 per person). You may participate on this course from home or download lesson plans for schools. If you join in while on your visit to Longford you can also continue once you get back  home!!

Creative Longford Craft Gallery: Creative Ardagh is the home of Creative Longford, County Longford’s Craft Network. The Craft Gallery at Creative Ardagh is the perfect place to find local lovingly made arts crafts. If you wish to visit during  out of open hours just give Ann and Annette a ring and they will do their best to meet you there and let you browse.

All visitors that have either happened upon the centre or purposely booked have loved their visit including our president Michael D Higgins who planted a tree in our garden on the 14th march 2014.
