The built, natural and cultural heritage of Longford is all around us. The preservation of this heritage for the education and enjoyment of present and future generations is a responsibility which we must all share.
The County Longford Heritage Forum was established in 2002 to oversee and advise on the preparation and implementation of the County Longford Heritage Plan 2004-2009.
A focal point of the northern midlands where the provinces of Leinster, Ulster and Connaught converge, Longford, where history and literature, tragedy and triumph are all woven together, takes its name from the ancient stronghold of the O’Farrell family (Long Fort - Fort of the O’Farrell’s).
